Set in the early 1970s, "Patterns" shows a young writer struggling to produce work while caught in a maze of short-term blue collar jobs. The writer, Octavia E. Butler, encounters one of her characters, who is equally frustrated at being held back from living. Lyrics by Anand jay Kalra, music by T. Carlis Roberts.
